Rebels join the fundraising race for Murdoch Childrens Research

On Friday 2 November corporate Melbourne will take to the treadmill and spin bikes to raise money for the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in the FOXTEL Lap, and RaboDirect Rebels players James King and Alex Rokobaro will be there to join in the fun and games.

The eighth annual corporate challenge will see teams run or ride as many ‘laps’ as they can to raise funds for vital research into childhood conditions including diabetes, obesity, premature birth and cancer.

More than 3,000 participants took part in the event across the country last year, slogging it out over 140,000 laps to raise $660,000 for Murdoch Childrens. For every $1 the FOXTEL Lap raised, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute generated a further $6 through competitive grants and government funding. Which put simply means that Murdoch Childrens were able to turn their 2011 funds raised into a whopping $3.5 million towards research.

Melbourne will kick off the event this year at the Lower Terrace, Birrarung Marr from 8am-6pm, but there are also runs in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

What does the FOXTEL LAP involve?

The concept is simple: 1 day, 10 hours, 20 people tag team on a treadmill or spin bikes!

Teams compete to ride, walk or run as many laps as they can over the 10 hour challenge. Participants raise funds for vital life saving research from colleagues, clients, family and friends for every lap they complete during their 30 minutes.

Your staff can register to run or ride (depending on the machine you choose) or they can choose to join your team as a ‘team fundraiser’. The entire office can be involved!
