Adam Freier is an icon of the RaboDirect Rebels. The 31-year old Hooker has been an instant hit with supporters through his tireless work representing the club in the Victorian Rugby Union community and eloquent presence in the Australian media. Unfortunately for Adam injuries disrupted his 2011 season, with a troublesome back injury keeping him out of the first half of the season and then a hamstring injury delaying his return. He did make three appearances off the bench in the final three rounds though, scoring one of the campaign’s most popular tries, at home to the Western Force in the club’s last game of the year.Adam made his Super Rugby debut back in 2000, for the Brumbies. He then went on to become the Waratahs’ most-capped Hooker, and is now closing in on a century of Super Rugby appearances. His consistency has been rewarded with 25 caps for the Wallabies, debuting in 2002 against Argentina. Adam is also a former Australian schoolboys, U19 and U21 international and captain.Adam’s standing in the game is reflected in his involvement with the Rugby Union Players’ Association, of which he is currently President.Through his many media commitments, Adam is one of the club’s most visible squad members. He writes a column for the Sydney Morning Herald / The Age on life as a professional Rugby Union player, appears on the ABC’s Offsiders television show and can often be heard on the radio as an expert analyst. Away from Rugby Union, Adam has fully embraced the relocation to Melbourne and is now a devotee of the city’s laneways and coffee culture. Despite this, as the son of Laurie Freier, a notable former rugby league player and coach, he can often be found discussing the NRL, especially on Twitter.
