Massive Prop, Rodney Blake, is a colossal figure in the RaboDirect Rebels scrum. At 190cm and 127kgs ‘Rodzilla’ is his appropriate nickname and that size was put to great effect for the Rebels in their debut season of Super Rugby. The 28-year old made four starts and two appearances from the bench, including a try on his club debut in the round six triumph over the Hurricanes at AAMI Park. Though born in Tonga, Rodney progressed through the representative ranks with the Australian schoolboys and U21s. He made his Super Rugby debut for the Queensland Reds in 2005 and he earned the first of his seven Wallabies caps just a year later, against England in Sydney. After four seasons, and 36 games, with the Reds - including one as player of the year, Rodney moved to French Top 14 side Bayonne. Rodney’s explosive performances on the field and his genial nature off it have made him a favourite of supporters wherever he has played. Rugby runs in the family, as Rodney’s father, Paul, is a former Otago flanker.
