Melbourne Rebels Captain Dane Haylett-Petty is ready to launch into the second half of the season after being named to return to the side’s starting XV.

The Club’s on-field leader and regular fullback has made a successful return from a foot injury, which kept the Wallaby back sidelined for six weeks.

Ahead of his first Super Rugby game since March, Haylett-Petty says he’s ecstatic to be out of the rehab group and back into main training.

“I’m obviously happy to get out of team rehab and to get back on field,” Haylett-Petty said.

“I turned a corner probably last week and its feeling better and better with each session, so I’m pretty happy with it at the moment.”

One of the positives which came out of Haylett-Petty’s injury was the ability for the fullback to mentally refresh before heading into the second half of the season.

While time away from playing may have helped him recover mentally, Haylett-Petty says he’s happy he can move away from watching in the stand to now be a part of the Rebels’ charge towards the finals.

“(I’m feeling) mentally refreshed, I suppose physically you’ve got to try and ramp it up to be ready to play, but I’m feeling mentally refreshed and keen to get back out there,” Haylett-Petty said.

“For players sitting on the sidelines, it’s very hard to watch and you always want to be out there.”

Haylett-Petty will get his chance to help guide the Melburnians back towards the winners list after watching his side lose three out of the past five games.

The 29-year-old says the group are keen to rectify their loss to the Waratahs after letting a 13-point lead turn into a three-point loss.

“We’re obviously disappointed with that Waratahs game, we were in control for a long period and kind of let that one slip.”

“It’s a bit frustrating but now we get the chance to fix that this week.”
